Introduction
Introduction
What is SI Joint Dysfunction?
The Sacroiliac (SI) Joints are the critical link between your spine (sacrum) and your pelvis (ilium). Unlike the vertebrae in your spine, these joints are not designed for movement; they are designed for stability and load transfer between your upper body and your legs.
Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction (SIJD) occurs when this joint becomes mechanically dysfunctional in one of two ways:
Hypermobility (Instability)

The ligaments become too loose (common during pregnancy or after trauma), causing the joint to "slip" or unlock, leading to sharp, catching pain.

Signs Your Pain is Coming from the SI Joint
SI Joint pain is the "great masquerader." It is often misdiagnosed as Sciatica or a Herniated Disc. However, specific symptoms set it apart. You likely need Pelvic & SI Joint Rehab if you experience:

Our Protocol for SI Joint Pain Relief
Generic back stretches often make SI Joint pain worse, especially if you are suffering from instability. At Redux Movement, our Registered Physiotherapists and Rehab Therapists use a specific mechanical protocol to fix the dysfunction.

Step 1: The Provocation Tests
We don't guess. We use a cluster of orthopedic tests (like Laslett’s Cluster) to stress the SI joint. If these tests reproduce your familiar pain, we know the SI joint is the culprit.

Step 2: Correcting the Alignment (Mobilization)
If the joint is locked (Hypomobile), we use Manual Therapy and Muscle Energy Techniques (METs) to gently rotate the ilium (hip bone) back into its correct neutral position. This often provides instant relief from the "jammed" sensation.

Step 3: Stabilization & Loading (The Cure)
If the joint is unstable (Hypermobile), massage alone will not fix it. You need stiffness.
Deep Core Activation: We train the Transverse Abdominis to act as a natural corset.
Glute Strengthening: The Gluteus Maximus crosses the SI joint. Strengthening it helps "compress" and stabilize the joint naturally.
SI Belts: For acute cases (especially pregnancy-related), we may recommend an external belt to provide artificial stability while you build strength.

PREGNANCY & POST-PARTUM
PREGNANCY & POST-PARTUM
Pregnancy & Post-Partum SI Joint Pain
During pregnancy, the hormone relaxin causes your ligaments to loosen in preparation for childbirth. This often leads to severe SI Joint instability and pubic symphysis pain. We specialize in Post-Partum Pelvic Rehab. Our approach is safe, gentle, and effective for restoring pelvic stability after delivery, helping new mothers return to lifting, carrying, and walking without pain.
