Introduction
Introduction
What is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)?
The "thoracic outlet" is the narrow, crowded space located between your lower neck, your collarbone (clavicle), and your first rib. A major bundle of nerves (the brachial plexus) and blood vessels must pass through this tight space to supply your shoulder, arm, and hand.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) occurs when these critical nerves or vessels become compressed, trapped, or irritated within this space.
There are three types of TOS, but Neurogenic TOS (compression of the nerves) accounts for over 95% of all cases we see in our clinic. It is almost always driven by poor posture, forward head carriage, or trauma like whiplash.

Is it Carpal Tunnel or Thoracic Outlet Syndrome?
TOS is one of the most frequently misdiagnosed conditions in healthcare. Patients are often told they have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome because their hands are numb, but wrist splints and hand exercises do nothing because the entrapment is happening near the collarbone.
You need clinical TOS Physiotherapy if you are experiencing:

Our Protocol for Nerve Entrapment Relief
Nerve compression is a mechanical problem that requires a mechanical solution. Basic stretching often irritates an already angry nerve. At Redux Movement, our Registered Physiotherapists and Rehab Therapists use a highly specific protocol to systematically open the thoracic outlet.

Step 1: Releasing the "Pinch Points"
The nerves are usually trapped by two specific, hypertonic muscles: the Scalenes (in the neck) or the Pectoralis Minor (in the chest). We use RAPID Neurofascial Reset and advanced manual therapy to forcefully release these muscles, instantly creating more space for the nerves to breathe.

Step 2: Nerve Gliding (Neuromobilization)
Once the severe inflammation is controlled, we must physically break the fibrotic tissue in the joint capsule.
RAPID Neurofascial Reset: We use active, high-tension release techniques to separate the "glued" tissue surrounding the rotator cuff and joint capsule.
Advanced Joint Mobilization: Our Registered Physiotherapists apply specific, graded glides to the glenohumeral joint to stretch the contracted capsule mechanically.

Step 3: Scapular Stabilization & Breathing Mechanics
To prevent the TOS from returning, we must fix the root cause. We train you to shift away from "chest breathing" (which constantly elevates the first rib and traps the nerve) to diaphragmatic breathing. We then strengthen your lower trapezius and serratus anterior muscles to pull your shoulder blades down and back, keeping the thoracic outlet permanently open.
